This one-day course will explore  personalised approaches to addressing symptoms experienced by many ageing males, such as fatigue, decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, depression, and more. The course will cover Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) and DHEA supplementation with licensed therapies and compounded options, where appropriate. Clinical risks and the latest scientific evidence and research will be discussed, along with essential nutritional and lifestyle guidance, including supplements and genetic testing, to provide integrative, patient-centered care. The 4 P medicine approach – Predictive, Preventative, Personalised and Participatory, will be applied.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:

    1. Understand the core concepts of TRT:
      • Understand the role of testosterone, its synthesis and production
      • Describe the foundational principles and recent advancements in testosterone therapy
      • Understand who the treatment is suitable for and associated risks and benefits
    2. Understand how to read and interpret blood hormone profiles
      • Conduct thorough patient evaluations and assessments, identifying symptoms related to low testosterone
      • Apply evidence-based practices to formulate personalised treatment plans for your patients.
    3. How to prescribe and monitor treatments safely:
      • Prescribe appropriate medications (licensed and compounded) with confidence, based on current best practices and clinical guidelines.
      • Monitor patient progress, adjusting treatment protocols as needed to optimise patient outcomes and manage any adverse effects.
    4. Integrate holistic care approaches from lifestyle to nutrition.
      • Advise patients on lifestyle, nutrition, and complementary therapies that support overall well-being and enhance treatment efficacy.
      • Explore diets and supplements which will contribute to sustaining healthy testosterone levels. Educate patients on self-management strategies to improve their quality of life.
    5. Understand the latest scientific research and evidence relating to TRT
      • Adhere to ethical and legal guidelines in patient care.
      • Utilise communication skills to educate, reassure, and engage patients in their treatment plans.

Course Instructor: Dr Monica Lascar

Dr. Monica Lascar joined the Marion Gluck Clinic in 2018 and brings with her a wealth of experience. Having trained in Sexual Health and HIV at University College Hospital, she went on to achieve a research degree from UCL in Viral Immunology.

Throughout her career, Monica developed an interest in functional medicine, bio-identical hormones and a more holistic approach to patient care, leading her to further her training by enrolling at The Institute of Functional Medicine and The Marion Gluck Training Academy.

She has completed AFMCP, applying functional Med in clinical practice, as well as the APM advanced practice module with the IFM institute of functional Medicine (USA). Monica now employs a functional medicine approach where appropriate, which looks at food as medicine alongside targeted supplements and to balance the body’s hormones, the use of bioidentical hormones. She has experience treating patients with a range of complex symptoms, including peri-menopause, menopause, testosterone deficiency syndrome, fatigue and immune dysfunction conditions.
