Customised BHRT (cBHRT) is personalised medicine that is prescribed off-licence and cannot be patented, it is, therefore, impossible to have multi-million pound double-blind placebo trials for each individual preparation. This does not mean its efficacy or safety is compromised in any way. In the majority of cases, the hormones used in cBHRT are exactly the same as those used in many of the safest, licensed rBHRT regimes.
There are numerous studies that demonstrate the efficacy of the individual components used in customised BHRT. These studies show that cBHRT is effective in the management of menopausal symptoms, often with fewer side effects than experienced with conventional HRT.
